It might be time to refinish and restain your hardwood floors if they have not aged well or have seen significant scratching, fading, water damage, or other problems. We address some of the most popular questions about hardwood refinishing below. When you’re ready to restore your hardwood to its former glory, contact Cincy Preferred Flooring to get started.

What is Refinishing?

Sanding the floor's top layer to remove scuffs, minor damage, and discoloration is the first step in refinishing. The floor is then given a brand-new look by adding a fresh coat of stain and lacquer. You can refinish your floors independently, but professional refinishing will yield the best results.

Can I Change the Color of My Floors?

How far the flooring will be refinished will determine this. If only the top layer of wood needs to be removed, the rest of the wood will still be visible, and the color must remain the same. You can go lighter, darker, or select a completely another finish color if you decide to have your floors refinished down to the wood.

What Do I Need To Do During the Refinishing Process?

All items and furniture must be transferred to another location before a professional team can begin the process. You should be able to walk on the floors in socks after two days once the procedure is finished. To wear shoes on the floor or move any furniture back, you might have to wait for up to a week. Any area rugs should not be placed on the floor for at least four weeks, and a good hardwood floor pad should be used to create a barrier between the rug and the floor.
